That many national flags feature stars or moon attests to the universality of the symbolism derived from the celestial. Aboriginal creation stories are alluded to in some of the works. Baanumbirr, the Morning Star appears in mortuary practises  amongst Yolngu of northern Australia. The Shining Star often accompanies a native American Lakota to burial. Europeans interpreted patterns of stars as constellations of Greek gods, the Morning Star is their planet Venus.
